Simply running cartridges through a degausser may not eliminate your data. Most degaussable media should use a minimum of 4000 Oersteds (Oe). DLT media should be degaussed multiple times to ensure complete eradication. Infinity Data Solutions uses multiple passes on a 4000 Oersted degausser AND completes a proprietary write and read test on every tape.
High density media utilizing factory written servo track technology requires a complete rewrite. Companies that write over a small percentage of the tape and/or simply place a tape mark on the tape will not remove all your data.
Writing over the entire length of a high density tape can take up to 2 hours and a single-drive company can only process four tapes within an eight-hour day. Infinity Data Solutions has over 350 OEM drives within our 18,000 square foot access controlled, secure, state-of-the-art data center. Our scale expedites the eradication process and minimizes the amount of time that tape contains sensitive customer data. After our eradication process, the entire tape is read to guarantee that all data has been safely and permanently erased.
